Starting counselling for stress and burnout is similar to driving. Like taking your car into the garage when the engine will not start, we unpack the toll, stress, and burnout has taken on. While at the garage, the mechanic will determine why your car shut down and what parts need to be replaced. Similarly, we discuss your work-life balance, meeting other people’s expectations, and your self-talk. I sit next to you in the passenger seat and ensure you are safe, heard, validated, and supported as you drive. I offer strategies and tools to help you feel less stressed and burnt out. You can pull over, slow down, or change lanes at any time. You gain new insight and understanding, which, in turn, create new experiences and awareness. Driving home after your counselling session, you feel less stressed and more in control. You also reflect on your self-care routine and measures to take when stressed.
Hi, my name is Leena Mehta, and I am a registered clinical counsellor in Burnaby (#19428). I’ve worked as a counsellor for over eight years, and I’ve supported individuals who feel stressed and are experiencing burnout. You were not born feeling stressed. I support individuals like you who want to feel less stressed and more in control of their lives. I provide stress counselling in Burnaby and online to both adults and youth.
I am a Burnaby therapist who works together with clients to explore how their stress and burnout impact their lives. This happens in a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space, both in person and online. You may struggle to maintain a work-life balance, which can lead to feelings of stress and overwhelm. You are more than your stress. I focus on your nervous system, and we explore what happens when you are feeling stressed.
Tired of feeling stressed out? What if I told you your nervous system is trying to communicate with you? Let’s work together and explore what you need to feel less stressed.
At Ease Counselling in Burnaby, I work with you to help you achieve your goals and improve your mental health. Starting counselling takes strength and courage. Prioritising yourself and your emotional well-being is something to be proud of and celebrate.
You may be a busy, successful professional who struggles with stress and burnout. At work, you may appear like you have everything under control, and coworkers may admire how you handle stress. However, you may be overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed internally, yet feel embarrassed or uncomfortable sharing your feelings. What if I told you that you are not the only one on your team who feels stressed and overwhelmed?
You may be a high-achieving student who struggles with stress and burnout. At school, your peers and friends admire your ability to study and deliver coursework and presentations on time. However, internally, you may struggle with sleep, anxiety, and worry due to your fear of failure and letting others down. What if I told you that many other students struggle with stress and burnout?
You may be a stay-at-home parent or caregiver who struggles with stress and burnout. At home, you may have everything under control and consistently meet your partner’s and children’s needs. However, internally, you may struggle to ask for help and meet your own needs due to stress and overwhelm. What if I told you that many parents feel stressed and overwhelmed raising their children and managing everything else at home?
At Ease Counselling in Burnaby provides a safe space to share your story. You are the expert of your life, not me or anyone else. As your counsellor, I support and empower you, but I don’t tell you what to do. You don’t need me or anyone else to tell you what to do. You know what’s best for you, and you can feel this in your gut. Let’s strengthen that feeling so you can make decisions with less or no self-doubt.
Let’s make space for your stress. As your counsellor in Burnaby, I’m curious to learn about how your stress shows up, how it impacts you daily and how you feel about it. You are not weak, and you have nothing to feel embarrassed about.

I use a variety of different counselling modalities to support clients with stress and burnout. Every client is different, and as a counsellor, I support each client with where they are in their healing journey. Counselling modalities that can help include:
ACT can help clients accept their thoughts and feelings without trying to change them. It can also help individuals change their behaviour so that it aligns more closely with their values. For example, saying no to others and maintaining healthy boundaries.
CBT can help individuals identify and challenge negative core beliefs and thought patterns. For example, I’m less worthy or deserving, my needs don’t matter, and I’m unimportant.
DBT can help individuals with emotional regulation and distress tolerance by learning skills and strategies to help them cope. For example, noticing signs of stress in the body and learning how to manage these feelings.
The thought of starting counselling may be stressful, but there are resources you can access.

Burnaby stress counselling focuses on the connection between your feelings of stress and your body’s response. When stressed and overwhelmed, your body may shut down, a phenomenon commonly referred to as a freeze response. Your body is trying to protect you by shutting down. It is a coping mechanism for individuals when they feel overwhelmed and stressed. Fight or flight is another response. As a Burnaby therapist, I unpack how your body responds or reacts when you feel stressed or burnt out. We spend time connecting your body’s response to how you feel and your thoughts. For example, your body may shut down when you feel stressed, worried and anxious. Negative thoughts may surface, which can be critical and unkind. Some of our work together involves decreasing unkind self-talk and increasing self-love, self-kindness, and self-compassion. We also focus on emotional regulation and self-care.
Burnaby stress counselling explores how your feelings of stress and burnout impact your life. We explore how you are coping with your stress, or not and where your stress stems from. Some people feel stressed trying to meet others’ needs and expectations. They feel unable to set boundaries or say no to others. As a counsellor in Burnaby, I explore what prevents individuals from saying no and from setting boundaries. Some clients share cultural norms and expectations, while others share people-pleasing tendencies. Together, we explore how to move forward in a way that feels right for the client. I also share healthy coping mechanisms clients can incorporate into their lives. These may include practising mindfulness, creating healthy boundaries, saying no, prioritising self-care, exercising, using muscle-relaxation techniques, and getting 8 hours of sleep, to name but a few.
Burnaby stress counselling helps you heal from experiences that result in stress and burnout. Some of our work together may involve exploring stressors and how you can reduce or manage them differently. As a Burnaby therapist, I support clients in identifying patterns of behaviour that may lead to stress. For example, some clients struggle to say no because they fear disappointing others. Other clients struggle to ask for help because they worry others will judge them and view them as less capable. Some of these fears may be rooted in childhood, and together we will work to challenge them and heal your inner child. I also work with clients who view themselves as less deserving or worthy, and together we challenge and replace negative core beliefs with positive ones.
A range of issues can result in burnout, for example, a limited support network from family and friends, taking on more responsibilities and tasks at work or at home, trying to meet the needs and demands of others, even though you may not have the capacity and a lack of healthy boundaries. At Ease Counselling in Burnaby spends time with clients to understand the factors and experiences that resulted in them feeling stressed and burnt out. What if I told you that many of the clients I support experience stress?
Counselling in Burnaby focuses on the stressors in your life, and together we unpack what you control and what is outside of your control. For example, work may be stressful, and while you can’t change other people or the system, you may be able to find another job. You may also find it helpful to talk to others, ask for help and learn skills in counselling.
Yes, it is possible to heal from stress and burnout. Every client has a unique healing journey, and while sometimes it takes time to process and recover, it is possible to heal. Counselling in Burnaby supports individuals who want to heal and recover from stress and burnout. As a Burnaby therapist, I have supported several clients in healing from stress and burnout, and I’ve shared strategies to help them prevent burnout in the future.
Some health causes may be the result of underlying health conditions, and it is best to speak to a medical health professional to gain further clarity. That said, At Ease Counselling in Burnaby can support individuals who are experiencing low motivation, low mood, difficulty sleeping and low stress tolerance.
The number of sessions you may need varies from client to client. Every client I support as a Burnaby therapist is different, and their needs vary. I work with each client to establish goals, and we work together to achieve them. Clients who have been struggling for a while may need more sessions to help them unpack thought patterns and to identify where they feel stuck. However, clients who have been struggling for a shorter period of time and seek out support sooner may find they have less to unpack and process. I’m curious to learn where in your body you feel stress.
As a Burnaby BIPOC counsellor, sessions focus on meeting you where you are and working at your pace, alongside you, with compassion, kindness, and curiosity, both in-person and online.
As a Burnaby therapist, I incorporate evidence-based modalities in every session. I am trained in various evidence-based modalities, including Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. Each of these modalities equips me to support your unique needs, and we work together to achieve your counselling goals.
As a Burnaby therapist, I understand the impact of inequality and oppression, providing a safe, non-judgmental, and inclusive space in-person and online. People from all ethnic backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations, including 2SLGBTQ+, are welcome. As a South Asian Burnaby therapist, I create a culturally sensitive space, and I am curious to learn more about your culture, norms, and values.
